Dhruthi wins triple crown

Mysore: It was day of a triple delight for the 11-year-old Dhruthi T. Venugopal, a product of the Raghuveer Tennis Club, on the concluding day of the De Paul AITA Talent Series tourney for juniors when she won the U-12, U-14 singles and U-14 doubles titles at the PPIRS courts here on Friday.

Dhruthi impressed with her consistent play to win the girls under-12 singles title early in the morning by beating Statemate Tarini Chandramouli 6-0, 6-3. Later in the day, she combined well with Preethi Ghokle to clinch the girls’ under-14 doubles title beating Tarini and Sanjana Rajashekar 6-1, 6-0.

In the girls’ under-14 singles final, after losing the first set 4-6, Dhruthi showed a lot of resolve to wear down her rival Preethi Ghokle. Preethi committed too many unforced errors on her forehand which was exploited by Dhruthi. She won 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 and with it completed a fine triple.

S.D. Prajwal Dev and B.R. Nikshep won the boys under-12 and children’s under-10 (State-ranking) singles titles respectively.

Boys U-14: Singles: Nikhil Reddy (Kar) bt Rohit R. Gowda (Kar) 4-6, 6-1, 6-3.

Boys U-12: Singles: S.D. Prajwal Dev (Kar) bt S. Kishen (Kar) 6-0, 6-2.

State-ranking: Children’s U-10: Singles: B.R. Nikshep (Ben) bt C. Vasisht (Mys) 6-1, 6-4.

Girls U-14: Singles: Dhruthi T. Venugopal (Kar) bt Preethi Ghokle (Kar) 4-6, 6-4, 6-4.

Doubles: Dhruthi & Preethi bt Tarini Chandramouli & Sanjana Rajashekar (Kar) 6-1, 6-0.
