Kashyap scores unbeaten century

BANGALORE: Nikhil Kashyap hammered an unbeaten 117 to help RN Institute of Technology beat Yellamma Dasappa IT by 68 runs in the Chamaaju Memorial inter-engineering cricket tournament here on Friday.

In another match, BIT beat PESIT by 79 runs, thanks to good bowling by Bharath (five for 29).

The scores: BIT 211 for eight in 30 overs (Mahesh 49) bt PESIT 132 in 22.4 overs (Bharath five for 29); RNSIT 246 for three in 30 overs (Nikhil Kashyap 117 n.o., Sandeep Patil 51 n.o.) bt YDIT 178 for nine in 30 overs (Deepak four for 36).

Chandrashekar selected

The Asian Taekwondo Union has named international referee Maradi Chandrashekar of Karantaka as a member of the competition supervisory board for the 18th Asian Championship, scheduled to be held at Henan, China, from April 26 to 28.

RWF is champion

Rail Wheel Factory emerged as champion in the Prasanna Kumar Memorial football championship, with a deserving 2-0 victory over BHEL (EPD) in the final at the BDFA Stadium here on Thursday. Both the goals came in the first session. It was a dream start for RWF as striker Satish, in a solo run cut past a few defenders to slot the ball home in the second minute of the game.

The early setback seemed to have really rocked BHEL and it compounded its troubles, when it conceded another goal in the 14th minute. Naveen’s free kick saw defender Anthony make a tardy clearance and the ball bounced back right into BHEL goal.

Trailing 0-2, BHEL made a determined bid to level the score, but RWF put up a solid defence. After the break, both the teams frittered away quite a few chances and RWF hung on to its lead.

The Puttaiah Memorial tournament for Super Division teams will begin on April 15 and in the first set of matches, ASC will meet ADE and Karnataka State Police takes on Postal FC.

SWR sports meet

The divisional sports meet of South Western Railway will be held at the Railway Institute grounds here on Saturday.

Mahesh Mangal, Divisional Railway Manager, will preside and Raghuraman, Financial Advisor and Chief Accounts Officer, SWR, will be the chief guest.

Easy for Soniya FC

Soniya FC scored a 7-1 win over Police FC in the MDFA ‘A’ division football league in Mysore on Friday. Sunil Kumar (15th & 55th min.), Somashekar (51st & 53rd), Madhuswamy (36th & 60th) and Rakesh (80th) were the scorers.

Anthony Arulappa reduced the margin for the loser in the 88th minute.
