PATIALA: The National Theatre Arts Society, Patiala, observed International Punjabi Theatre Day here by staging “Daairey”, an anti-foeticide Punjabi musical play directed by Pran Sabharwal and Sunita Sabharwal and dedicated to the late Norah Richards and Prof. I.C. Nanda, pioneers of the modern Punjabi theatre movement. Prof. Nanda along with Norah Richards had laid the foundation of modern Punjabi theatre on April 6, 1914, at Dyal Singh College, Lahore. Mr. Pran Sabharwal said that with this show the Inter-State “Beti Bachao” National Theatre Awareness Campaign launched last month had completed a run of 15 performances of in Punjab, H.P and Uttarakhand. He thanked the Central Department of Women & Child Development, the Departments of Culture of Uttarakhand and Himachal, the North Zone Cultural Centre, Patiala, and the State Bank of Patiala for their cooperation in the venture.
