Higher wages for railmen demanded

‘Pay panel recommendations biased, skewed’

Place GMs in apex grade, says Federation

NEW DELHI: The governing council of the Federation of Railway Officers’ Associations has expressed deep anguish over “biased and skewed” recommendations of the Sixth Pay Commission and demanded higher wages for railway officers. The Federation, which represents nine Group A Railway Central Services, has demanded placement of all general managers of the Indian Railways in the apex grade, and also to pay Railway Board Chairman at par with the Cabinet Secretary and the Chiefs of Staff of the defence services.

According to the Federation’s acting General Secretary G. N. Asthana, the Railway Board Chairman — who manages the world’s largest railway system — has been given a raw deal in the Pay Commission’s recommendations. Similarly the general managers should also be placed in upper pay scales.

The Federation has also demanded inclusion of the Selection Grade officers of the Central Services in the higher pay band and enhancement of the rate of increment from 2.5 per cent to 3.5 per cent uniformly for all grades.

Charging that all Central Group A services, particularly the 9 Group A Railway Services, have been given a raw deal as compared to the Indian Administrative Service, Mr. Asthana said if the Centre fails to fulfil their demands, the Federation along with other railway unions would launch nationwide protests.
