NEW DELHI: Instituted by the Bureau of Indian Standards to encourage Indian manufacturing and service organisations, the Rajiv Gandhi National Quality Awards were presented at a ceremony here on Thursday. CategoriesFive awards were presented under various categories -- large-scale manufacturing industry, small-scale manufacturing industry, large-scale service sector and small-scale service sector besides the best of all award. Twenty-six commendation certificates were also presented. The awards were presented by the chief guest of the evening, Yashwant Bhave, Secretary in the Central Department of Consumer Affairs. Steel Authority of India Limited’s Bokaro Steel Plant won the Best of All Rajiv Gandhi National Quality Award-2007. The winners in the other categories were Tata Motors, Pune; Tata Ryerson, Jamshedpur; T.V. Super Filter Industries, Jammu; and Wealthmax Enterprises Management, Bangalore. The awards are an annual feature intended to generate interest and involve Indian industry in quality programmes and drive Indian products and services to higher levels of quality to meet the challenges of domestic and international markets. CriteriaThe assessment criteria for the awards are reviewed from time to time in the light of the experience gained and changing national priorities.
