Rambhatla to receive Nandi award

Rambhatla Nrusimha Sarma

VISAKHAPATNAM: Noted Telugu poet and commentator Rambhatla Nrusimha Sarma of city won the Nandi Award 2006 for the best song in TV feature films and drama. The award will be given away to be him at a special function in the city likely to be held in a month.

Mr. Sarma’s award winning effort came through the title song he penned for Gurazada Apparao’s famous drama, ‘Kanyasulkam’ which was serialised in a TV channel in 2006. The title song was rendered by film playback singer S.P. Balasubrahmanyam and the drama directed by actor Ravi Kondala Rao with actor and playwright Gollapudi Maruthi Rao in the role of ‘Girisam’.

Known for his scintillating performance on the stage as moderator, event manager and pruchchaka for ‘Aprastuthaprasangam’ in Avadhanam literary feats which crossed the four-figure mark, Mr. Sarma, an announcer in the All India Radio, Visakhapatnam, authored over a dozen books.

He also received several awards which include AIR national award for his ‘Rasanadam’, adjudged best ‘Sangeetarupakam’, Ugadi puraskars from Delhi Telugu Academy and Vedic Seva Trust.

Mr. Sarma, who began his career as a sub-editor in Eenadu daily in the city in late 1980s quit the job to join AIR and since has been actively involved in Telugu literary programmes in the city and outside. His commentary on lyrics penned by Veturi Sundararama Murthy for films titled ‘Jhummandi Naadam’ is ready for release shortly.
