Clashes over women’s rights

Dhaka: More than 100 persons were injured as thousands of Islamist activists clashed with police on the second consecutive day on Friday while trying to stage a protest here against a government policy to ensure equal rights for women, said police and witnesses.

The clash began soon after prayers at a mosque in a downtown area with activists belonging to several Islamist groups attacking policemen with bamboo sticks.

The activists were protesting against the recently announced national women policy that called for equal property rights for the women. — PTI
