NEW DELHI: The Union Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) on Friday gave its nod for a revised policy for single super phosphate (SSP) fertilizer for the agriculture year 2008-09, which seeks to rationalise the pricing of SSP, provide for uniformity in the pricing of all phosphate and potash fertilizers, and allow for periodic adjustment in the price of SSP with regard to the concession provided to it. Announcing the decision, Union Science and Technology Minister, Kapil Sibal, said a uniform all-India maximum retail price (MRP) of SSP, based on the nutrient cost of ‘P’ and ‘S’, would be fixed by the Centre at Rs. 3,400 a tonne for powdered SSP, and the Department of Fertilizer would be authorised to revise the MRP from time to time, keeping in view the international price trend of sulphur as well as the nutrient price of ‘P’ in DAP. Under the new policy, the MRP of granulated SSP will be announced at Rs. 4,000 a tonne higher than the MRP of powdered SSP and the MRP of boronated SSP at 10 per cent higher than that applicable to powdered and granulated SSP, so that farmers get fortified SSP required for balanced fertilisation.
In addition, base concession to SSP will be adopted and announced at Rs. 5,630 a tonne for SSP with imported rock and at Rs. 3,658 a tonne for SSP with indigenous rock. This concession will be applicable to powdered, boronated, granulated or any other fortified SSP.
