Bar Council condemns State action

HYDERABAD: The Bar Council of AP has condemned the State government’s action in writing to the President and the Chief Justice of India on the alleged comments made by Justice A. Gopal Reddy, a judge of the high court, while hearing a writ petition.

A. Narasimha Reddy, chairman, said here on Friday that the letter had “serious impact” on the functioning and independence of the judiciary. “The judges would not be in a position to dispose of matters in a dispassionate manner and with impartiality. The State Bar Council, being a statutory body, is also concerned with the independence and functioning of the judiciary. Since the State government is the respondent in the matter, it is not befitting for it to have addressed such a letter to the Supreme Court and also to the President of India.”

The council resolved to constitute a committee .
