HYDERABAD: Union Minister of State for Defence Production Rao Inderjit Singh has said that in the climate of global insecurity developing indigenous combat capability was a pre-requisite. “Strategic partnering and fostering long term industrial relationships will set the pace for defence and industry to explore and develop, leading to self reliance,” the Union Minister of State remarked while delivering the valedictory address of the Higher Defence Management Course (HDMC) at the College of Defence Management here on Friday. Further, he noted that partnerships with the industry and the corporate sector could not be overlooked. “The private sector also has to be responsive to the needs of the Armed Forces and develop contemporary military technology. We are marking efforts to leverage the private sector in this direction,” Mr. Inderjit Singh observed. Strategic initiativeHe said setting up of College of Industrial Resource Management, as part of the Indian National Defence University would be a strategic initiative in cementing a parallel approach in developing indigenous force capabilities. The Union Minister said: “Our leadership in the defence services has proved adept at coping with the prevailing operational environment, what will be needed to strengthen performance in future are the intellectual foundations of our concepts, doctrines and planning processes all operating in the knowledge world of today.” Commandant of College of Defence Management A. Saikia said the HDMC had provided the requisite intellectual prowess in an effort to find innovative solutions to problems that the Armed Forces face. Successful participantsThe Union Minister awarded the degree parchments, trophies and book prizes to the successful participants. Col B.K. Repswal was awarded the Chief of Army Staff Integration Trophy for best all round performance while Col H. Gupta was presented the MMS Trophy for standing first in the order of merit.
