CUTTACK: An old and abandoned building of Salipur police station of Cuttack district was severely damaged in a massive explosion on Friday night. “The explosion took place around 9.30 p.m. damaging a portion of the four-room building that had not been in use since January,” said Cuttack rural SP A N Sinha. No one was injured in the explosion, as the building was located at a distance from the new building, the SP, who rushed to the spot after the incident, added. “Some seized bombs and few explosive materials were kept in the Malkhana which could have exploded due to the excessive heat inside the closed building”, Mr. Sinha said ruling out sabotage. The old building of the police station was vacated three months ago when a new building came up around 50 metres away from it, he added. The PS in charge P. K. Jena said that some important exhibits stored in the old building have been completely gutted.
