BHUBANESWAR: As a befitting tribute to the late legendary Odissi maestro Padma Bibhusan Kelucharan Mohapatra, the Kolkata chapter of Srjan dance institution that was founded by the guru, would host a day-long dance festival namely ‘Deesha’" in the West Bengal capital on April 24. “Srjan” director Ratikant Mohapatra, son and disciple of Kelucharan Mohapatra, informed that the festival would be hosted at the Gyan Manch auditorium in association with the Odissi dancers and dance institutions of Kolkata. “My father spent much time in Kolkata teaching his disciples for decades and he shared a special bond with the cultural ethos of the city. He was also a much-loved artiste for the people of the city. The festival is an expression of the dancers’ continued love and respect for the guru,” he stated. The Kolkata chapter of Srjan emphasises the role of the solo dancer in the classical Odissi genre and thus has launched the annual GuruKelucharan Mohapatra Yuva Prativa Samman which is conferred on a solo dancer, said Rajiv Bhattacharya, coordinator for the Kolkata chapter of Srjan. Kolkata-based talented Kathak dancer Souvik Chakraborty would be the recipient of the award this year that carries a cash award of Rs.10, 000, announced Ratikant Mohapatra.
