1.61 lakh voters to get photo identity cards

Correspondent

CHAMARAJANAGAR: Deputy Commissioner K. Vishwanath Reddy has said that steps had been taken to issue photo identity cards to 1.61 lakh voters from April 15 to May 5 in Chamarajanagar district.

Addressing leaders of various political parties and presspersons here on Friday, he said that political parties could display publicity material at the venue of public meetings only two hours prior to the meeting. All publicity material must be removed within an hour after the meeting, he said.

Micro observers had been appointed for each Assembly constituency to check any electoral malpractices, he said and added that steps had been taken to set up 20 additional polling booths in the district. Officials of the departments concerned had been asked to keep a vigil on transportation of people and goods into the district from neighbouring States, he said.
