School student drowns in lake

TAMBARAM: A 15-year-old school student drowned in a lake in an abandoned quarry in Tirusulam on Thursday evening.

Pazhavanthangal police said S. Sivasankar, the son of a carpenter, was studying in Class VII in a private school near his house in Poonthottam. There was a frantic search for the boy on Thursday as he is reported to have stayed away from classes. His body was later found floating in the lake formed in the abandoned quarry.

A sum of Rs.36,000 was burgled from a Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation outlet in Echangadu . The burglary came to light on Friday morning.
