Fined for engaging child labour

NAGAPATTINAM: The Nagapattinam Chief Judicial Magistrate, P. Rajamanickam, on Thursday slapped a fine of Rs.10,000 on the owner of a workshop in Sirkazhi in this district for engaging a child for work.

C. Poongulazhi, Inspector of Labour, Tiruvarur and Nagapattinam districts, filed a case before the court against Krishnamoorthy under Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act 1986. The CJM also ordered for payment of Rs.7,000 from the fine amount to the child directly.
