LeT, LTTE among terror groups listed by the U.S.

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: Four terrorist organisations suspected to be involved in terrorist activities in India are among the 44 groups designated as “Foreign Terror Organisations” by the U.S. in its latest review.

Two based in Pakistan

While two – Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed are Pakistan-based – the list includes Sri Lanka’s Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam and Harkat ul-Jihad-i-Islami from Bangladesh.

Released by the U.S. State Department, the list has been prepared by the Washington-based Office of the Coordinator for Counterterrorism (S/CT) which continually monitors the activities of terrorist groups active around the world to identify potential targets.

Includes Al Qaeda

The list also includes Al Qaeda, Abu Sayyaf Group, Basque Fatherland and Liberty (ETA), Hamas, Palestine Liberation Front, Palestine Islamic Jihad and Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine.
