PANAJI: The Goa government on Friday dismissed Sub-Inspector Nerlon Albuquerque for alleged lapses in the investigations into the Scarlette Keeling case. The officer was in charge of the Anjuna police station in north Goa when the mysterious death of the British teenager Scarlette on the beach came to light on February 18. He was earlier suspended for the lapses. The SI allegedly tried to close the case as accidental death by drowning. The mother of the girl, Fiona Mackeown, successfully petitioned the government to re-investigate the case apprehending foul-play. Chief Minister Digambar Kamat said on Friday that the dismissal of the SI was recommended by the Police Establishment Board. Silviano Sapeco, head of the Forensic Department of the State-owned Goa Medical College Hospital who conducted the first controversial autopsy, is also under suspension for alleged lapses which led to a second autopsy. The State government has already written to the Centre, requesting a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation. This followed doubts raised by the mother of the deceased that the police could not be trusted to conduct a fair investigation.
