Aruvankadu: West Bengal’s late effort to overcome Indian Railways went in vain as the latter emerged winner to annex the T.P. Khosla Trophy for the Team of four Duplicate event at the 39th summer National bridge championships here. A confident Railways (Moloy Bose (NPC), M. Mukherjee, A.N. Banerjee, G.N. Manna, S. Mujumdar, S. Mukherjee and D. Majumder) went into the last session of their 56-board final with a 26 IMP (114-88) lead over West Bengal (J.P. Goenka, K.K. Roy, P. Kushari, B. Das, A. Sadhu, S. Banerjee). Bengal picked up 7 IMPs (39-32) but fell short by 19 IMPs, leaving Railways a clear winner. The final score read 146-127 IMPs in favour of Indian Railways for whom it was the sixth title. In the Selected Pairs event for the Subhash Agarwala Memorial Trophy, which ran concurrently with the quarterfinals of the team event, the total field of 84 pairs went through three elimination rounds to identify the 16 pairs for the two-day final which starts on Saturday.
