Udhagamandalam: The stage is set for the Ooty racing season beginning from April 13. The number of meetings would be 28, according to Itath, a senior Stipendiary Steward. There are 500 horses, 14 trainers and 39 jockeys are expected to vie for honours. This year only a few two year old horses have come here. Pointing out that there was a marginal increase in the stake money, he said that it has gone up to Rs.3,44,62,000. The value of 36 cups would be Rs. 5.25 lakhs. The weather condition is good. While the Nilgiris 1000 Guineas will be held on April 25, the Nilgiris 2000 Guineas will be on April 28 and the Nilgiris Derby Stakes on May 11. The Nilgiris Gold Cup will be on May 19.
