PUDUKOTTAI: Writers and poets should have a greater responsibility towards social uplift of the masses, particularly the under-privileged sections, said noted writer and Sahitya Akademy awardee Prabanjan. Speaking at a function organised by the Apeka Library and ‘Karuppu Veli’ here to mark the release of a book titled ‘Kadhaiyin Thalaippu Kadaisiyil Iruka Koodum,’ authored by Adhavan Deetshanya here recently, Mr. Prabanjan said that writers gained social honour only through their care and concern for the people and not by bringing out a larger number of books. Contemporary problemsPointing out that Mr. Adhavan Deetshanya had made great efforts by visiting the families of ‘Arundathiar’ for ascertaining their lifestyle before setting out on his literary work, Mr. Prabanjan said that writers should not shy away in reflecting the contemporary problems plaguing the society. Joint Registrar of Cooperatives and Special Officer of Pudukottai District Central Cooperative Bank T. Ramanidevi released the first copy of the book which was received by Mr. Prabanjan. Deetchanya’s poetry, story and essays were introduced and reviewed on the occasion. More interesting was the introduction and review of a book ‘Near kaanal,’ a compilation of interviews by Deetshanya. Writers and poets Thangam Moorthy, Azhagiya Periyavan, Rasi. Pannerselvam, Punitha Pandian and the Editor of ‘Uyir Ezhuthu’ Sudir Senthil reviewed the works.
