Speaking at the inauguration of ‘Joy Centre’ on Friday, K. Pandia Rajan, Managing Director, Ma Foi Consultants, which supports the Foundation, said more than 1,000 people would be trained in the courses that would be held over the coming year. Currently, training is offered for employability in Information Technology Enabled Services, Business Process Outsourcing and Hospitality industries. In association with the government, the centre hoped to offer another ten certification programmes, he said. T.C. Saravanabava, Executive Director, NIMI Guindy, Director General Employment and Training, Ministry of Labour and Employment, Government of India, said lack of job opportunities did not lead to unemployment anymore. Work was available and appropriate training and certification was what the government was trying to provide by making available over 200 skill training courses. Training and certification for these courses would be provided by separate service providers, ensuring that the process is entirely professional and free from bias. Akhila Srinivasan, Managing Director, Shriram Life Insurance; Chitra Iyer, Senior Manager, Dr. Reddy’s Foundation; N. Casmir Raj, Advisor, LIBA, Loyola College; and S. Jayaraman, Regional Manager (Micro Insurance), LIC of India, Zonal Office, Chennai, were present.
