Photo identity cards to be issued from today

Staff Correspondent

They will be issued on the spot

Teams have been formed to issue cards

They will be headed by a Revenue Inspector

BIDAR: A campaign to issue photo identity cards for the coming Assembly elections will be held between April 13 and May 5 at the hobli level in the district, Deputy Commissioner Harsh Gupta has said.

Teams have been constituted to issue cards to voters. The laminated cards will be issued on the spot, Mr. Gupta said at a press conference here on Friday.

The teams will be headed by a Revenue Inspector and will comprise supervisory officials, booth-level officers, village accountants and others.

Mobile teams will issue the cards in rural areas, while stationary teams will be formed for hobli centres under the jurisdiction of urban local bodies, where cards will be issued between April 15 and May 5.

The team will require at least 15 to 20 days to complete the process of issuing the cards.

Mr. Gupta said that people who had lost identity cards would be issued new ones at a fee of Rs. 25, between May 5 and 12.

The last date for making additions or deletions to the electoral list is April 22. The offices of Assistant Commissioners and taluk offices can be contacted in this regard, he said.

‘Nemmadi’ centres

Mr. Gupta said that 30 senior officials had been appointed to ensure that the code of conduct was not violated. They would function from the “Nemmadi” centres set up at various places in the district.

The public have been asked to register their complaints against violations of the code of conduct at these centres.

These officials will have the additional duty of receiving complaints or objections with regard to the voters’ list and creating awareness on usage of electronic voting machines among rural people.
