Krishnagiri: The Tamil Nadu Vivasayigal Sangam has urged the State Government to implement the Hogenakkal drinking water scheme immediately. Speaking at the district committee meeting here on Saturday the General Secretary of TNVS, S.A. Chinnasamy condemned the attitude and remarks of former Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa and accused him of trying to stall the implementation of the Hogenakkal drinking water scheme. The Kannada outfits were creating a rift between Tamils and Kannadigas only to gain political mileage. They were raking up the issue only to gain political mileage. The Centre should intervene in the issue. The project should be executed immediately as it would benefit a large number of people in the fluoride-affected districts of Krishnagiri and Dharmapuri. The meeting also urged the Government to enhance the compensation provided to farmers whose crops are damaged by wild animals. The compensation should be commensurate with crop type and extent of damage. Mr. Chinnasamy said the Dharmapuri district milk producers union was collecting 50 paise a litre for the past few years from the producers for a rehabilitation fund meant to wipe out the losses. Though losses had been made up the union continued to collect the charges. As a result many farmers were not getting remunerative prices.
