Uniform distribution: Forest department has adopted drip irrigation for raising nursery in Hasthampatti in Salem. SALEM: The Forest department has installed drip irrigation system for a portion of the nursery garden, maintained by the Shervoroys (South) Range in the Hasthampatti office premises here. The system was installed with a capacity to water 3,000 seedlings. The department has adopted the drip irrigation method as it helps manage water usage and fertiliser application effectively. CapacityThe method also ensures uniform distribution of water and helps the department minimise the labour cost, officials point out. Officials further say that the department is raising seedlings of a variety of trees including Neem, Pungan, Cassia Fistula, Magizham and Vanni. The department will plant these seedlings on the roadsides in the areas coming under South Range. The Hasthampatti nursery garden has over 60,000 seedlings, which are raised under the Tamil Nadu Afforestation Programme. The Soil Conservation range has also installed drip irrigation system for its nursery garden located in the camp office of Conservator of Forests. The system has a capacity to water over 7,000 seedlings.
