Red Ribbon Express coming

VISAKHAPATNAM: Thanks to the increased campaign, doorstep services and other forms of awareness campaigns and programmes, more number of people are getting tested for HIV and AIDS and the percentage of incidence of the diseases has come down in the district.

While more than 27,000 persons underwent tests and 20,000 pregnant women took the HIV positive tests during 2006-07, the number has gone up to 45,000 and 32, 000 respectively during 2007-08, Additional District Medical and Health Officer (AIDS and leprosy) P. Rajendra Prasad informed at a press conference held here on Saturday to announce the arrangements being made for Red Ribbon Express exhibition to be held from April 16 to 18.

The number of positive cases dropped from 13.6 to 11.2 and incidence in pregnant women from 1.17 per cent to 1.13 per cent.

The Red Ribbon Express would arrive at the Visakhapatnam railway station in the early hours of April 16 and after the formal inauguration at the railway station around 9 a.m. the train would be shifted to the siding near the Railway Exhibition ground for the people to visit it from 9.30 a.m.

The rain has seven compartments and the exhibition, counselling and seminar facilities will be in five coaches. The other two coaches are meant for the crew and cultural troupes.

Youth Coordinator of Srikakulam and East Godavari districts Nageswara Rao and N.S. Manoranjan, Additional DMHO of East Godavari M. Pavan Kumar, also spoke.
