NEW DELHI: Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee will confer “Best MLA” awards and Ambedkar Ratan award marking the 117th birth anniversary of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar at the Delhi Assembly on Monday. The function will be attended by Lieutenant-Governor Tejendra Khanna, Assembly Speaker Prem Singh and Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit among others. While the names of the awardees have not been announced, it is reliably learnt that Badarpur MLA Ramvir Singh Bidhuri would be presented with a memento as “a mark of respect” for his “outstanding contribution as a Member of the Delhi Legislative Assembly”. Best MLA awardsThose who will be presented with the Best MLA award are Tajdar Baabar and Bhisham Sharma of the Congress while S.P. Ratwal and O.P. Babber of the BJP would be honoured with Special Awards. The Ambedkar Ratan Award would be presented to MLAs for the past four years and a jury has been constituted under the SC/ST Welfare Department of the Delhi Government for the purpose, sources said. Mr. Bidhuri, who is the president of the Delhi unit of the Nationalist Congress Party, has a long career as a legislator.
