CPI protests against price rise

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: In the run-up to a demonstration on Parliament Street on April 17, the Delhi State unit of the Communist Party of India is holding public meetings across the Capital to create public awareness about government’s failure to control prices.

One such meeting was held at Bawana Jhuggi Jhonpri Colony in North-West Delhi on Saturday where CPI secretary Amarjeet Kaur accused the Central Government of not being able to control the sharp rise in prices of essential commodities.

Ms. Kaur criticised the Government for not rationalising the public distribution system at the national level so that poor people could meet their food needs at lower prices.

CPI national council member Dinesh Varshney criticised the Delhi Government for its failure to arrest price rise and also for its inability to control corruption in the PDS.

While local unions have begun holding their general body meetings on the issue, many such public meetings are planned in the coming days. Four meetings are scheduled to take place on Sunday at Karampura, Shahdara, Nand Nagri and Holambi Kalan Metro Vihar.
