Chamber welcomes export policy

Special Correspondent

Thiruvananthapuram: The Thiruvananthapuram Chamber of Commerce has welcomed the export policy announced by Union Commerce and Industry Minister Kamal Nath. In a statement here on Saturday, S.N. Raghuchandran Nair, secretary of the chamber, said the ban on export of construction materials would make them available in the internal market, bring down their price and remove the sluggishness in the construction sector. The cut in customs duty under the Export Promotion Capital Goods Scheme from 5 to 3 per cent would encourage trade.

The Vishesh Krishi Gram Upaaj Yojana benefit would provide much relief to the fruit and vegetable sector. Even though the ban on export of rice would affect paddy cultivators in the State, it would help consumers. He asked the Minister to take steps to make good the loss to exporters owing to the devaluation of the dollar.
