Kerala Police to handle festival security

THENI: The Kerala Police will make security arrangements for the Chitra Pournami festival at the Mangaladevi Kannagi temple on April 20, Collector S.J. Chiru said on Saturday.

Pilgrims may visit the temple, located on the Western Ghats, between 6 a.m. and 5 p.m. Along with R. Sudhakar, Superintendent of Police, Theni, and officials of the Revenue and Police Departments of Idukki and Theni districts, Mr. Chiru inspected the arrangements made on the temple premises.

The ghat road between Kumuli and the temple would be renovated and drinking water facility provided in the temple. The trekking path to the hill from Paliankudisai would also be renovated, and drinking water supplied at vantage points.

Mr. Chiru urged pilgrims not to use plastic material inside the forest area.
