Kozhikode: Industries Minister Elamaram Karim said here on Saturday that the government had a definite agenda for improving the Information Technology (IT) and Information Technology-Enabled Services (ITES) sectors in the State. He was inaugurating the offshore development centre of Sweans Technologies, a leading IT and ITES company in north Kerala, at the Kerala Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation Techno Industrial Park at Kakkancherry, bordering Kozhikode and Malappuram districts. Mr. Karim said that the government had already acquired land for setting up a new industrial park at Ramanattukara on the outskirts of Kozhikode city. Boost growthThe establishment of the industrial park would give an impetus to growth in Malabar, he said. K. Muhammedunni Haji, MLA, presided over the inaugural function. T.K. Hamza, MP, was the chief guest. Speaking on the occasion, Sweans Technologies chief executive officer Ajay C. Thomas said that the company planned to recruit over 100 people for the unit at Kakkancherry. This would be done in a phased manner within a year, he said. “We are looking forward to recruiting talented freshers and experienced hands, both in business process outsourcing and web applications development,” he said. Kozhikode was emerging as the next IT destination in the State, Mr. Thomas said. The city gave considerable cost advantages to do business. Sweans Technologies is a major player in web development, e-commerce consulting and in niche areas of the outsourcing business. It has clients across the globe. Sweans was started in Delaware, U.S., in July 2006 as a freelance enterprise by a single person providing e-commerce and internet security solutions. It expanded its business starting a new firm employing 20 persons in Manjeri in Malappuram district in March 2007. The company also started a new office in London, U.K., in August last year.
