Rajasthan Governor urges expansion of information technology and nano-technology Aim to provide high strategy wired and wireless connections to common man at affordable cost JAIPUR: Rajasthan Governor S. K. Singh on Saturday called for improving the growth rate of adoption and development of new technologies, such as broadband and nano-technology, to ensure all-round development. Inaugurating a national symposium here on “Recent advances in broadband systems” organised by the Institute of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (IETE), Mr. Singh said the growth of information technology had been slow in India in comparison to countries such as China. The Governor said the proposed India-U.S. nuclear deal would be helpful for scientific progress of the country. “Opposition to the deal merely because the U.S. is the other signatory is not in the interest of the nation,” he remarked. Mr. Singh said the socio-political system in the country as well as the mind-set of the society at large had often put roadblocks to scientific progress. Former IETE president D.P. Sehgal said the share of broadband connections in the total number of 1 crore internet connections in the country was only 34 lakh. It pointed out that the growth rate of broadband utilisation was a measure of overall technological growth. IETC president S. Narayana said the benefits of information technology should be extended to villages to strengthen rural economy. Over 200 scientists and experts from all over the country attending the symposium are expected to evolve a strategy for providing high data services for wired and wireless connections and all-time connectivity to the common people using multimedia at an affordable cost.
