Farmers’ convention in Davangere today

DAVANGERE: The Congress is all set to hold its farmers’ convention here on Sunday, kick-starting its election campaign.

A pandal has been erected on the high school grounds to accommodate 25,000 people. A big dais has also been set up to accommodate over 100 Congress leaders including Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president M. Mallikarjun Kharge, the former Chief Minister S.M. Krishna, AICC general secretary in charge of the State Prithviraj Chavan, N. Dharam Singh, Siddaramaiah, C.K. Jaffer Sharief, M. Veerappa Moily, B. Janardhan Poojary, V.R. Sudharshan, R.V. Deshpande and Shamanur Shivashankarappa.

Many prominent leaders have already come to Davangere.Party leaders said farmers would be apprised of the loan waiver scheme introduced by the United Progressive Alliance Government. The party would also announce certain schemes for farmers of different regions of the State.

Mr. Kharge will inaugurate the convention and Mr. Siddaramaiah will preside over it.
