CHANDIGARH: Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda asserted on Saturday that his regime would eliminate power shortage in the State completely. Addressing public meetings at Khairkan and Panihari villages in Sirsa district after laying the foundation stones of two power sub-stations, he alleged that his predecessors were to be blamed for the present phenomenon of power shortage. Mr. Hooda said his Government would add 5,000 MW power generating capacity during the next two and a half years. The first unit of 300 MW at the Deen Bandhu Chhottu Ram Thermal Power Project in Yamunanagar was generating power regularly for the past ten days and the second unit of 300 MW was likely to start giving power to the State grid after two to three days. Construction work on the 1,200 MW Rajiv Gandhi Thermal Power Project at Khedar (Hisar) and the 1,500 MW Jhajjar Thermal Power Project is going on a war footing. The Chief Minister asserted that with the addition of 5,000 MW to the present power generating capacity, his regime would be able to give power supply for 22 hours daily.
