Rain lashes southern districts

TIRUNELVELI: Several parts of the district experienced significant rainfall on Saturday.

While the sky remained overcast, it rained twice in the morning – around 7 a.m. and 10.30 a.m. – for about 15 minutes.

After a brief interval, intermittent drizzle continued in the evening. While one Kandan of Vadakarai near Gangaikondan was killed in the house collapse, five persons from Karambai sustained injuries after they were struck by lightning when they were working in the field. Rainfall recorded in the district till 8 a.m. on Saturday (in mm): Radhapuram – 20, Palayamkottai and Tirunelveli – 1.20.

Nagercoil

Heavy rains accompanied by thunder and lightning lashed various parts of the district on Saturday. More than 10 persons sustained injuries in different parts of the district after they were struck by lightning. They were admitted to Government and private hospitals for further treatment.
