BANGALORE: Bangalore Urban district Deputy Commissioner M.A. Sadiq has said that 12 checkposts will be established on the outskirts of the city to check illegal transport of liquor from neighbouring districts and other States during the election campaign. 12 locationsHe told presspersons here on Saturday that Excise Department and police personnel would man the checkposts at the 12 locations. The Excise Department officials had been instructed to step up vigilance to check illegal transportation of liquor and spirits from neighbouring districts to constituencies. There were seven major liquor dealers in the district and movement of liquor would be monitored daily during the electioneering, he said. All the seven constituencies of Bangalore Urban district — Yelahanka, Byatarayanapura, Yeshwanthpur, Dasarahalli, Mahadevapura (SC), Bangalore South and Anekal (SC) — go to polls on May 10. There are 19.36 lakh voters and 1,786 polling stations in seven constituencies in the district. As many as 12,000 personnel would be deployed for election duty in the district, Mr. Sadiq said.
