Ban sought on an NGO for helping non-tribals to get tribal status Government promises action against those got forged certificates BERHAMPUR: Kui tribals of Kandhamal district now want the government and district administration to take action against the local grassroot level politicians who have allegedly got elected from seats reserved for tribals using false caste certificates. It may be noted that the Kandhamal district administration has recently initiated action against non-tribals who had used false caste certificates to get government jobs meant for tribals. Speaking to The Hindu over phone from Kandhamal district the secretary of the coordination committee of the Kui Samaj, Lambodar Kanhar said only action against government officials would not do. According to Mr Kanhar there are a lot of nontribal politicians in the district who have got elected in panchayat elections from areas reserved for tribals using false caste certificates. The Kui Samaj wanted action against them and also action against the politicians who had allegedly recommended issue of false caste certificates to non tribals. He also added that the State Government should ban an NGO of Bhubaneswar, which has helped nontribals to get false certificates to claim tribal status. The Kandhamal district administration has recommended the state government to take action against 53 persons of the district, who are holding different government jobs in the state. Service of an employee of the water resources department has been terminated following recommendation of the Kandhamal district administration. Cases filedOn Friday cases were lodged against 48 of these persons at different police stations of Kandhamal district. Twelve of them were filed at G.Udaygiri police station (PS), 33 cases were lodged at Tikabali PS, two cases were filed at Raikia PS and one case was lodged at Bisipada PS. This action was taken following investigation on a list of persons who had allegedly used false caste certificates to get benefits, which was provided by the Kui Samaj. The allegation of Kui Samaj against the ‘Pana’ community of the district to be using means to get tribal caste certificates to get facilities meant for Scheduled Tribes was a major reason behind communal tension in the district in December last. The State Government had promised action against non-tribals of the district who had used forged tribal certificates for their gains.
