Hope of glad tidings for former child labourers

M.V. Foundation and Broadridge Financial Solutions set up bridge camp for them

HYDERABAD: For the hundred-odd children, who formerly were employed as labourers at various places in the twin cities, Friday brought a lot of cheer and hope of glad tidings.

M.V. Foundation and Broadridge Financial Solutions (India) Pvt Ltd extended a helping hand by setting up a Residential Bridge Camp (RBC) for them. Apart from funding, the talented workforce of Broadridge Financials will train children in English language skills and other subjects in the RBC so that children can be groomed properly before being admitted to Government schools. Broadridge Financials will set aside Rs.1.2 crore in the next three years for the development of RBC.

Training for children

“The RBC is already functional at Chandrayangutta, in which about 100 children are getting trained. The children were employed as rag pickers, domestic helps and even at construction sites. All of them are aged between 6 and 14 years,” MV Foundation secretary M.R. Vikram told mediapersons.

On Friday, over 100 children were invited to the plush corporate office of Broadridge Financials, where children were given drawing classes. “The volunteers of M.V. Foundation will identify the children and bring them to the bridge camp. They will groom children by imparting them with skills like reading, writing, games and songs. Children will be taught to form committees and decide on the day to day working of the camp,” Mr. Vikram informed.

Outings

Instead of limiting themselves to just funding, authorities of Broadridge Financial said that they would make sure that the children are taught and also taken on outings by their personnel. “Our workforce would be interacting with the children a lot. They would teach them apart from taking them on fun trips. Eventually, the capacity of the RBC would be enhanced to 300 children,” disclosed Managing Director of Broadridge Financial Solutions V. Laxmikanth.
