Police, Corporation to make necessary changes “Chief Secretary seeks daily report on progress”
Compliance: A hoarding being dismantled in the city on Saturday. MADURAI: The administration had issued directions to district officials to remove all unauthorised hoardings in the city as per the apex court order, said Collector S.S. Jawahar here on Saturday. Briefing presspersons, he said that the administration had directed the police, revenue, highways, National Highways Authority of India, panchayats, town panchayats and municipalities to dismantle the flex and digital boards erected without obtaining proper permission. The officials had also been instructed on the procedures to be followed while removing the hoardings. It had been decided at the meeting of all district officials that they would report the progress to the administration as the Chief Secretary had asked for a daily report in this connection, he said. So far, 378 hoardings had been removed, he said. On the problem of traffic congestion near the Government Rajaji Hospital on Panagal Road, he said that already barricades blocking the view of the casualty entrance had been removed and efforts were on to shift the bus stop and mini bus terminus from the present location to a place near the Corporation Ilango Higher Secondary School. The police and transport departments and Corporation had been directed to make the necessary changes in 15 days, he said. He also said that efforts were on to install barricades along the pavements to prevent pedestrians from crossing the main road at will. If necessary, a zebra crossing would be provided on the road to facilitate pedestrians to move across without any hassle.
