IRCON may execute bridge projects
P.V.V. Murthi
ARNI: With private contractors reluctant to execute new works owing to the increase in prices of raw materials, the Railway Ministry is planning to entrust IRCON International with the construction of 38 road over-bridges in Tamil Nadu.
Union Minister of State for Railways R. Velu told The Hindu here on Friday that IRCON International had agreed to execute the work. Of the 108 road over-bridges sanctioned for Tamil Nadu in the last four years, 25 had been completed.
Talks with contractors
The Railway Ministry, he said, was planning to request the State to consider asking the Tamil Nadu Road Development Corporation to take up these projects.
“We are persuading the contractors to complete the work,” he said, when asked about the road over-bridge projects that had either been abandoned or delayed by contractors owing to cost escalation.
