BERHAMPUR: A two-day cultural festival was inaugurated at the Ganjam Kala Parishad in the city on Sunday to mark the ‘Mahavishuva Sankranti’, Oriya New Year and fifty first birth anniversary of the organisation. Four famous artistes of south Orissa honoured during the inaugural function. They were Odissi dance guru Gajendra Panda, Odissi classical singer Susri Alaka Panigrahy, noted theatre personalities – Nirmal Mishra and Sriranga Nayak. It was followed by a long cultural show organised by the students of classical music and dance of the parishad. The show was managed by the cultural secretaries of the institution -- Kedar Apta and Devendra Nanda. The students of Hindustani classical music enthralled the audience with their chorus recital of devotional songs. Group danceIt was followed by Odissi group dance by tiny tots who are starting to learn classical dance in the institution. There was Odissi dance by senior students and a Bhangada dance. “How can we forget the Vaisakhi celebrations of Punjab which coincides with the Oriya New Year celebrations,” Mr. Nandasaid.
