CMC has taken up construction of boundary walls BIDAR: It may be for the last time that Ganesh Maidan, situated in the heart of the city, is hosting public meetings organised by political parties. It has been the centre of political activity for years especially during elections. The City Municipal Council has taken up construction of boundary walls and plans construction of a jogger’s track and benches, and plantation of saplings. Assistant Executive Engineer Mohammed Moiz said here on Saturday that “we have taken up construction of boundary walls to prevent people from trespassing into the park.” “We do not have any another place except the maidan for allowing political parties to conduct public meetings in the city. Another place has to be identified in the city for conducting public meetings. The maidan can be used until then by paying rent.” Mr. Moiz said that the CMC was focusing on improving Barid Shahi park. Work on the jogger’s track at the maidan would be taken up after that. Shifting venueJanata Dal (Secular) district unit president Baburao Gudge said that “shifting the venue of public meetings to other locations from the maidan would create problems for political parties. Rajesh Kamtikar, who lives close to the maidan, said that the authorities should ensure proper maintenance of the park. K. Prashanth, owner of a tea shop in the area, said that political meetings did not cause any inconvenience to the public.
