Cleanser blocks to curb mosquito breeding in the Cooum

Staff Reporter

Chennai: Blocks made from useful microbes and volcanic porous stones of Japan may soon be dropped into the Cooum to remove organic pollutants and curb mosquito breeding.

Electricity Minister Arcot N. Veeraswami on Thursday said the cleanser blocks would be dropped into the Cooum at certain points on a trial basis to determine if it could kill mosquito larvae.

The Minister promised funds from the MLA constituency development fund to support the trial in Anna Nagar.

The Minister made the announcement at a function where he distributed free colour television sets to beneficiaries in Anna Nagar and T. Nagar constituencies.
