Lucknow: A man wanted in several criminal cases, carrying a cash reward of Rs.2,500 on his head, was gunned down in an encounter with police in Varanasi on Sunday. Pankaj Singh was fleeing with a looted motorcycle when a police team gave a chase and an exchange of fire ensued, reports reaching the state police headquarters here said. A nine mm pistol was recovered from Singh, who had cases of murder and robbery registered against him. Three policemen, including the station incharge of Sarnath, were injured in the encounter.
