PUDUCHERRY: The Puducherry unit of the All India Central Council of Trade Unions (AICCTU) has urged the government to provide a monthly pension of Rs.2,000 for construction workers. The council said in a release here on Friday that a resolution to this effect was adopted at its general body meeting. It urged the government to make an announcement on the pension for the construction workers in the current session of the Assembly. The AICCTU urged the government to display the list of the names of the persons having red ration cards at the village panchayat offices to ensure total implementation of the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act. It pleaded with the government to pass a bill in the current session of the Assembly to grant recognition to the trade unions. Expressing solidarity with the agitating workers of the Anglo-French Textile Mills, the council asked the government to ensure parity in the dearness allowance.
