Additional duties to RTC drivers unfair

As part of its cost-cutting exercise, the Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation has begun to reduce the number of conductor posts. It is forcing drivers to do the additional job of issuing tickets to commuters. This system has already been introduced in some long-distance services, where drivers start buses only after issuing tickets to commuters who take the bus at that particular stop. Ticket-issuing machines are being given to drives for the purpose. Since the drivers’ job is strenuous and it requires attentiveness, I request the higher officials to withdraw the proposal of giving additional duties to drivers and think of some other ways to reduce the expenses.

Protect Gajjelavari Cheruvu

It is learnt that officials of the Eluru Municipal Corporation are planning to occupy Gajjelavari Cheruvu, a water tank, and make it non-existent. This is one of the biggest tanks of Eluru with great history of addressing peoples’ needs. I request the district administration to take steps to protect the tank and beautify it. There is a need to construct bunds and develop greenery on its shore. This tank can be used as multipurpose water source to Eluru town, besides developing parks on its bunds.

Expedite stadium works

A foundation stone was laid for construction of a stadium on the west side of J.B. College in Kavali long ago. Funds have also been sanctioned for the project. It is really unfortunate that the works for the construction of the said stadium have not been taken up so far. The citizens, particularly the sport-loving people of the town, are eager to see the stadium taking its final shape soon.

I request the officials concerned to take necessary steps to make the stadium a reality.

Hotel management course at UG level

In the wake of acute unemployment problem, the present day youth are joining various professions immediately after their graduation.

Hotel management is one such profession, which is providing employment to a large number of young graduates and under-graduates.

With posh hotels and restaurants coming up in large numbers in every town and city, the hospitality industry is flourishing in the State.

In this backdrop, there is a need to introduce hotel management course at the under-graduate level.

This course can be on the lines of biotechnology and microbiology, which have been introduced at that level.
