Dynamic leader

The resignation of Speaker of Orissa Legislative Assembly and subsequent removal of Debasis Nayak clearly indicates the dynamic rule of Naveen Patnaik government in the matter of Gayatri Panda case and it is crystal clear that Mr. Naveen is dynamic and straight forward and committed to the neat and clean governance in the State.

In the past also Mr. Naveen shows his immense capabilities in many a matter and dealt firmly and not favoured any body whoever he or she may be. Thus he is gaining popularity day by day. Further handling the difficult situations in a most relaxed manner is his asset and praiseworthy.

He needs all out appreciation for his excellent handling of matters in his career as Chief Minister.

Not a good practice

Newspapers across Orissa have widely covered as to how a dozen of ministers and above 30 legislators from Biju Janata Dal were deputed to ensure a victory in Laxmipur by-election. Fighting an electoral battle had become priority for the Naveen Patnaik government that used to take credit for putting development of the State on the fast track.

In the absence of a Minister, a number of files did not move. Even Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik himself spent two days for Laxmipur by-election.

A week of madness on behalf of political leaders held back the State from advancing further. Secretaries and their staff came to office and spent days in sloth. When Ministers would return to their respective offices, files must have been piled up. They will have little time to go through these files. This kind of administration one should not aspire.

Pave way for new faces

Cultural institutions die out when elders do not let youngsters become its part. It is the case for several cultural institutions in the city. A major cultural institution of the city is being managed by same old faces since decades although they do not take part in cultural activities any more except for giving long boring speeches at functions.

To keep their positions intact they do not allow new talents to get into the management of the institutions as members.

No cultural institution can grow without new talent. But these old faces do not realise that time has progressed and they have to accept that new breed have more energy in them.

They should hand over the management of these cultural institutions to the younger generation to save them from becoming functional for namesake.

Police should change their attitude

It is high time for the policemen to get training of basic behaviour and etiquette. Usually the common citizens do not feel secure with the policemen in a police station due to bad behaviour of police officers.

They seem to be more cordial with the miscreants who have regular touch with them rather than with the general public who may visit the police station for the first time. They usually forget how to behave before elders and women. They feel their continuous use of slang is their forte. Lack of behaviour has increased the gap between general public and the policemen.

No one prefers to be in touch with policemen unless they are in trouble. Policemen also lack information because they do not keep in touch with general public. Their rude behaviour is the only hindrance. They have to change their mindset that all who reach the police station have a shady past behind them. It is high time for them to get trained for change in their behaviour because they forget the etiquettes that their parents may have taught them after joining the police force.
