Poet presented award

CUTTACK: Eminent poet Sourindra Barik received the prestigious ‘Bisuv Samman’ on Sunday at the Prajatantra Conference Hall on the occasion of 59th Bisuv Milan organised by Prajatantra Prachar Samiti.

Noted poet and Commonwealth award winner Keki N Daruwalla presented the award to Barik which carries a cash prize of Rs. 50,000. Among others Girija Bhusan Baliarsingh was awarded with Susmita Bagchi award while Smitha Mohanty received the Jhankar Samman on the occasion.

Daruwall, who is on a two-day visit to the State, joining as chief guest on the occasion said the language of a region speaks volumes about the progress and prospects of that region. “Language is the yardstick to measure the development of a province. If the language of the people is illustrious and famous, then the people of that region is equally prosperous,” Daruwalla opined.
