Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala will observe April 17 as Solidarity Day to mark the arrival of the Olympics flame in the country. Addressing a press conference here on Sunday, Sports Minister M. Vijaykumar said that leading personalities belonging to various walks of life and sportspersons would take a solidarity pledge at important centres in all the districts. In Thiruvananthapuram, the pledge would be taken in front of the Martyrs Column. He said the flame would arrive in New Delhi on April 17 and a major function had been arranged to receive it. The Kerala campaign would coincide with this show, he said. He said there were some negative voices against the Olympic flame in some countries. There was no two opinion that such opposition was against the spirit of the message, he said. The pledge would be organised under the auspices of the Sports Department and the Kerala Sports Council. Sports Council president T.P. Dasan was present at the press conference.
