THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Several prominent personalities, including Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan, offered their condolences over the death of the popular Kathaprasangam artiste Kedamangalam Sadanandan on Sunday. Mr. Achuthanandan, in his message, described Sadanandan as an artiste who had played a pivotal role in transforming Kathaprasangam into a popular art that drew large audiences in Kerala. He glowed on the stage for more than six decades, rousing popular sentiment against all kinds of social injustice. He used the stage effectively to spread the Leftist progressive idea among the people of the State. “Kedamangalam Sadanandan’s demise is an irreparable loss to the Left movement and the art of Kathaprasangam,” the Chief Minister said. CPI State secretary Veliyam Bharghavan said Sadanandan fought throughout his life for the poor and the working class people using his art as a deadly weapon. He made invaluable contributions for the growth of the Communist movement in Kerala, Mr. Bharghavan said. KPCC president Ramesh Chennithala said Sadanandan’s contributions as a Kathaprasangam artiste, cine/stage actor, lyricist and story writer would be remembered for all times to come. RSP State secretary V.P. Ramakrishna Pillai; BJP State president P.K. Krishnadas; Forest Minister Benoy Viswom; Fisheries Minister S. Sharma; Revolutionary Youth Front general secretary K. Sunnykutty; Purogamana Kala Sahithya Sanghom general secretary V.N. Murali; and Vanitha Sahithi general secretary V. Seethammal also offered condolences.
