JAIPUR: Scientists and researchers attending a national symposium on “Recent advances in broadband systems”, which ended here on Sunday, called for urgent steps to adopt broadband and wireless communication for high data services which they said would herald a new age of urban-rural connectivity. The two-day symposium was organised by the Institute of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (IETE). The participants drawn from prestigious engineering institutions, including the Indian Institutes of Technology, affirmed that the broadband connectivity would ensure a fast pace of development of the country. The technical sessions in the symposium, inaugurated by Rajasthan Governor S.K. Singh, covered subjects such as broadband platform for multimedia delivery, optical and wireless communication systems, rural connectivity, communication and special sectors and microwave and satellite broadband systems. C.A. Kumar from the Indian Space Application Centre, Bangalore, underlined the need to develop advanced electro-optical sensors for their application to space and satellite technology to bring self-reliance in the field. Over 200 experts from all over the country also deliberated on the role of wireless technology in petroleum production and mining. According to the scientists, developing communication system in the underground mining was going to be a major challenge in the near future.
